Learn To Trust Yourself
Do you trust yourself?
When a friend first asked me this question, I laughed "Of course I trust me, I am me....what do you mean? How could I not trust me?"
She smiled kindly and said "It simply sounds that you might not trust yourself."
As I contemplated this idea, I started to realize she might be right....
All those times, I promised myself that I'd give up coffee tomorrow, or that I'd start exercising more on Monday...and then didn't follow through.
All the times that I said yes instead of no, or I bit my lip to keep someone comfortable while I internally disagreed with their point of view.
All the times I agreed to do something that didn't feel right just because I "should".
Due to past broken promises to myself, I stopped believing that I could or would follow through with certain things....
I had to learn how to trust myself again!
Because, when we don't trust ourselves, we're more likely to:
1. Follow someone else's strategy, or business idea even if it goes against our gut.
2. Stay in a relationship, job or situation that is draining & unfulfilling.
3. Struggle to make decisions and poll everyone else to see what they think we should do instead of making the choice from our own sovereign thought process.
4. Participate in self-sabotaging behaviours like procrastination & distraction.
5. Find it difficult to finish what you started.
I was seeing where some of these things were starting to show up for me so....
I immediately started working on re-establishing trust with myself.
How?
Well, I made sure that I only said what I meant, that I only promised something I knew I could for sure accomplish, AND intentionally made small promises to myself that I kept over and over until I started to trust myself again.
So my question to you is....is it possible that you don't trust yourself?
I encourage you to not dismiss it as I rushed to do at first, but really contemplate it. <3
