Are We Inherently Good or Bad? Are These Just Projections?
If one person thinks I’m a b!tch but someone else thinks I’m the cat’s meow....what does that mean about me? Who is right?
Both…and…neither
My Buddhist meditation teacher taught me that “Nothing is inherently good or bad, everything is neutral.”
We simply think people (or even situations) are good or bad depending on our projections onto them, based on our experiences, thoughts & beliefs.
We make stories up in our heads about if someone is a good girl or a bad guy and this comes from the training we had as we grew up.
All the movies with heroes and villains imply they are inherently good or bad but the truth is we all have a little of both.
Don’t we?
Have you never told a lie? Hurt someone? Hurt ourselves?
No one likes to admit it, but c’mon let’s be real here, just for a minute.
Of course we have.
None of us are perfect, because that is part of being human, (being imperfect.)
So one of the things I’m working on is deconstructing is this idea that people are either good or bad, and instead seeing them as whole, accepting their entirety, including their shadows.
Because when people feel fully accepted and loved, they are incredibly powerful and can move mountains.
However, this work is not easy - but it is worth it, because it’s the fastest path to helping others transform into their highest selves.
And that is what I’m here for!!
What do you think? Can you see this in your life where you feel some people are evil? And some are good?
Are you willing to accept that truly we all have a little bit of both? And that it’s best to accept it within ourselves and others?
