How to Overcome Feeling Uncomfortable with Tani Morgan

 

Here's my favourite trick for releasing the anxiety you feel when you have to do something uncomfortable.

I know how scary it can feel to go into a situation where you're not sure you'll know the answer or you think you might do or say something wrong...⁠

And one of the things I've found to be most helpful to myself and my clients is simply this:⁠

Give yourself the permission to let people know exactly how you're feeling.⁠

So if you need to have an uncomfortable conversation, go into the conversation saying:⁠ ⁠"You know, this is a little uncomfortable for me, but it's my intention to improve things."⁠

If you're nervous about giving a presentation, start by calling it out:⁠ "Whew, okay, public speaking still brings out the nerves in me, but I keep reminding myself I'm not in high school anymore, so let's see how this goes..."⁠

(maybe make a little quip about it to lighten the mood?)⁠

When you simply lay your completely understandable human emotions on the table, other people will understand and relate to how you're feeling - and it will take the edge off for you!⁠
