3 Steps To Grow Your Audience

As a business owner, it’s pretty obvious that you need to have an audience of engaged fans. This is crucial because it doesn’t matter how good your product or services are, if no one knows about them then they can’t buy it. The larger your audience, the more you will be able to sell, the faster you will grow your business and the more money you will make. So the question then becomes how do you grow your audience?

STEP # 1 - Understand Your Audience

If you are just starting out and don’t have a following besides your friends and family, then you’ll want to decide who your ideal client is. You need to know who needs your services and who you want to work with. This is an incredibly important step because if you don’t know who they are, then you won’t be able to connect with them. If you put a generic message out, no one will feel like you are speaking to their soul (which is how you make a connection with someone).

So decide who you want to work with and then find them and talk to them. Ask them about themselves, their dreams, their fears and what they would like people to think about them? Get to know them the best you can. You want to know them so well, that they think you are reading their mind. That way when you put out content, you will create a connection with them. The next time you read a post or blog that really speaks to you and draws you in, ask yourself…”Why do I feel connected with this piece?”. Most likely, it speaks a truth that you already knew to be true, or it sums up thoughts that you have thought in the past, or describes an experience that you have also had.

Understanding your audience is crucial to being able to create magnetic messaging that attracts new followers.

STEP # 2 - Create Magnetic Messaging

Now that you have a very clear understanding of your audience, it’s time to connect with them through your messaging.

Start creating content that speaks directly from the heart of your audience… and yes, that is supposed to say ‘from’, not ‘to’ the heart of your audience. If you want your audience to share your content (and you do) then you want your content to sound like something they would say themselves. Your content should make them feel good, look good and actually make their life better. People don’t share content that implies that they aren’t organized, happy or successful so tailor your content to improving their lives.

This is why it is so important to do your market research and really talk to and get to know your audience. When you know what they dream of and what they fear then you have insight into their heart. You have a way of creating content that feels like you read their journal.

Sharing stories from your life is another great way to connect with your audience because often they can see themselves in you. When you are sharing about your own life, always think about how it connects to your audience. Ask yourself, “why do they care?” and “how is this helping them?”. You’ll also want to share from an authentic, vulnerable place as this is what connects you to them.

If your messaging and content connects with your audience, you’ll have so many likes, comments and shares that you won’t know what to do with….

Which takes me to the next step.

Step # 3 - Build Sincere Relationships

Once people start connecting with your content, give them the opportunity to connect with you personally. You want to give them a chance to get to know you, like you and trust you. If they like you, they’ll follow you but if they trust you, then they’ll want to do business with you.

People can feel how you feel about them, so you want to create an audience of people that you really enjoy and love to be around. People stay where they feel loved. Respond to them with thoughtful, sincere comments. Reach out by messenger and get to know any new followers. Check out their posts and leave authentic comments there. Ask about their lives and build sincere relationships.

The people you create relationships with are likely to become super fans and start promoting your business for you. When people love you, they want to share your stuff. When your content gets shared, new people find out and can fall in love with you and your business, growing your audience authentically and inexpensively.

There you have it. Three steps to growing your audience. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, if you have tried these and your results.
